We find it such a privilege to help a client organize their photos, digitize them and foreverize the memories. When one client told us “You’ve restored my life,” we were so touched. When you have a lifetime of collected memories in boxes, envelopes, bins, albums, the pictures can be overwhelming. Gen had absolutely no idea where to start. When a mutual friend told her about us, she said, “I need a Pixologist too!”
In the photo above, Gen is pictured with her niece, two great nieces and a great-great niece. She feels the importance of preserving her family history so the future generations of her family know the stories of their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents.
I traveled to her house to assess the situation. Gen had many boxes, albums, bags, envelopes and more of photos, slides and even 8mm film. Here’s the before photos:
During our first sorting: You can see that we have separated the slides out and left photos in the envelopes to start with. Once we could see all the envelopes, it was easy to sort the envelopes by date and then remove the photos from the envelopes.
Below, we are sorting the heritage photos. Because we had gone through Gen’s boxes and consolidated her heritage photos, we were able to match up photos taken on the same day. We kept the ones in better condition and eliminated the duplicates.
Here’s the next phase of her project . . . decades sorted by years, slides and film digitized as well. Now, the photos are awaiting archival boxes for storage, if Gen chooses to save her printed collection. Next to the photo below, I’ve listed how many photos were saved.
Organized and Digitized
Scanned Photos – 5,972
Slides – 1,700 or so
Film – 29 reels
VHS tape – 1
In this photos, I’ve listed the photos we set aside for Gen to review if she wanted.
Not Scanned
Duplicates & Repetitive, Unnecessary Photos – around 8,000
Travel Memorabilia – I did scan a few items from some of the major trips
Slides – around 500
Memorabilia – large trunk filled
Gen has been so appreciative of being able to enjoy her photos again. I uploaded her photos to a Forever Account and she is able to view her pictures on her iPad, reliving many long-forgotten memories. She feels so blessed at looking back over the photos, stating “I’ve had a fairytale life. You’ve restored my life!”
Photos below of her Family Heritage Forever albums. She preserved her heritage photos from two generations before her.
Since her photos have been organized, Gen has had two photo books printed including one about her career and one about her grandniece. We are currently working on travel and family history books. Gen has been able to share photos to make a photo poster board for an anniversary in the family and to record some of who is who in her Forever photo archive.
If you have a photo collection in need of some help and tender loving care, let us know. We are happy to make a plan to get you started on enjoying your family memories once again.
