The Wolverine Scanner
You might be thinking that I am talking about my favorite leading guy in the X-Men movies played by Hugh Jackman. While that Wolverine has come to the rescue many times, I am referring to a tool that will help you save money when it comes to scanning slides and converting negatives to digital files.
The Wolverine Slide & Negative Scanner (available in different formats and versions) allows consumers a relatively inexpensive way to digitize slides and negatives. You can purchase one for around $150 or we have them to rent at our studio with Open Studio Time hours.
While the digital file will not be archival quality, most of our clients are satisfied with the results of this DIY option. We have found that when clients come with a family member, the process goes much faster. Some of our clients have been able to save up to 350 digital images over the course of a couple of hours.
In addition, the Wolverine can scan negatives which is great. By viewing the negatives through the preview screen, you can see the photo in its true colors and decide if you wish to save it.
In the photo below, Margie brought her parents in to our studio to rent the Wolverine. Her mom and dad picked the slides they wanted to scan, placed them in the grids. Then, Margie was able to scan the slides. By tag teaming the work, they scanned hundreds of slides and had a lot of fun reminiscing as they went along.
