Some of our family members have fascinating stories from growing up in the 1930s, 1940s and more. We are at risk of losing these stories and our family legacy if we don’t take action now. I’ve found StoryWorth to be a great tool in helping preserve memories and in recording the way life used to be. Gifting a StoryWorth book is a wonderful idea on its own, and it can also complement the work you are doing in preserving family photos in a photo estate.
Pixologie has reviewed StoryWorth and loves the concept for ourselves personally and for our clients. We are now an affiliate for StoryWorth and we may receive a commission if you click on a link in this blog.
What is StoryWorth?
One of our clients told us about StoryWorth last summer and we did a review of it on YouTube. This review is one of our most popular videos still today!
StoryWorth involves purchasing a book for one of your family members. It costs around $99. It involves answering a series of questions over the course of one year via email.
- Once a week, a question is emailed to your family member (or yourself, if you like).
- All of the answers are compiled into a book at the end of the year
- Then, a hardcover book is sent to the person who answered the questions at the end of the year. You can order additional copies if you like.
I wish I could have done this for my dad while he was still alive.
Tips on Getting the Most From Your StoryWorth Book
I do have a few tips on getting the most from this experience.
- Help encourage your family member to answer the questions each week. It’s easy to let weeks go by and soon, your family
member may have quite a few to catch up on. - Edit your family members entries. You have the opportunity to edit your book and definitely take the time to correct misspellings or poor grammar. They won’t mind!
- Add photos and, make the photos larger when possible in the editing process. You may need to help your family member gather and scan old photos.
- Download the PDF and preserve this in a safe place. Someday, the hardcover books may be lost, and having this document preserved is very important!
My mother-in-law was gifted StoryWorth last year by one of our family who lives in Alaska! I couldn’t wait to see her book. It was great and I read stories I had never heard before from her. While we know that photos can speak volumes, if we don’t have the photo of a memory, we may have no memory at all.
StoryWorth is a great complement to creating a photo estate and I think the cost is worth the value you will get when the book is completed and sent to your family member and anyone else who wants a copy.
