Recently, I had a great conversation with a colleague who works out on the West Coast about preserving family photo collections. JC Figueroa is the Customer Champion for Mylio, one of my favorite photo organizing programs, and he shares my passion for helping people save their family memories.
While showing me the latest features for Mylio, JC shared his screen and his own personal family photo collection. I loved learning how someone else in my field organizes his digital photos. Mylio truly offers one of the best overall user interfaces for people to organize, edit, share and preserve family photos. Below, you can see his family photo collection in Mylio’s calendar view. We are looking at his parent’s photos from 1955 to 1964.
While talking about preserving family photos, JC pointed out a few special photos from 2019. His family was gathered at his mother’s senior living apartment. They weren’t there just to visit. JC’s brother, sister, mother, aunt, nieces and nephews were there to help sort, scan and save his mother’s most important family photos and stories.
I just loved seeing a whole family working together on such a meaningful activity. Even JC mentioned that everyone was involved and engaged in the project. Sometimes, it is difficult to find something the whole family can do together that all will enjoy. It was a very special day. Many of the photos preserved were of JC’s father who had passed away two years earlier. There was definitely laughter and tears that afternoon!
Better Technology for Preserving Family Photo Collections
JC’s family is fortunate to have had the opportunity to go through the memories while his mother and her sister are still alive. How he wishes they would have done this before his father passed away.
Because JC was an advocate for preserving family photo collections already, his family benefitted from his expertise. With his guidance, they set up a system right in his mother’s living room to tackle the project. Using the Mylio photo organization software, JC connected computers, a high speed scanner, iPads and even smartphones to work together. Each family member had a role.
The end result was amazing – scanned photos preserved in Mylio with stories, facial recognition and accurate dates. Everyone could share in the memories by downloading the pictures they each individually wanted in their own personal collection.
Coordinate Your Own Family Photo Preservation Day
Do you want to know how JC set this all up? I was so impressed, I helped JC tell his story on a blog post for Mylio. You’ll definitely want to check out the article where he explained his whole system to me. We also go deeper into his story.
I think the Mylio photo organization software is one of the best solutions available today for managing digital photo collections. Recently, I did a review on the program and it meets every single one of my criteria for preserving family memories.
I do highly recommend that people use the program on a weekly basis. There are many tips and tricks to using Mylio. Routine use makes preserving family photo collections so much easier!
