Do you have special memories of attending Summerfest? I remember going in 1991 with my boyfriend who did marry me despite my dragging him to a Michael Bolton/Kenny G concert there. Hopefully, you have photos from back in the day.
At Pixologie, we have a client named Bob Cavallo who is a professional photographer. He has thousands of musical moments captured on film from the early years of Summerfest. His goal was to document and photograph the musical legends in action. In fact, people can still today go to his website (www.bobbysbackstagepass.com) and order his prints of Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, Deep Purple, Supertramp, ZZ Top and many more.
Here’s a link to a few of his Summerfest Photos (http://www.bobbysbackstagepass.com/p944454707) where it is fun to see some older photos and how people dressed back then.
Recently, Cavallo came to us with old reel to reel film that he shot back in the early 1970s. He had around 12 three inch reels of film and one seven inch reel. Many musical legends represented on the film. Although the 8mm film has no audio, there is definitely some important history recorded from Summerfest.
One of his three inch reels of film also includes the building of the main stage and the Hoane Bridge!
Cavallo was happy to let us share this footage with our clients. Be sure to visit his website to learn more about his work and for his contact information.
This year, Summerfest celebrates 50 years and we can only imagine how many memories are tucked away in photo albums, boxes and drawers. Do you have a photo from Summerfest? Share it with us on Facebook!
